Local Cloth Retail Space Offers More for Shoppers & Makers

After months of careful renovation following the impact of Tropical Storm Helene, the Local Cloth retail space reopened in September 2025 — and it’s brighter, more welcoming, and more exciting than ever.

Located at 408 Depot Street in Asheville’s vibrant River Arts District, the refreshed space invites visitors to explore a stunning array of fiber arts by local makers in a setting that celebrates creativity and community.

A proud winner of the 2024 Best in Asheville Award for Best Boutique Shop, Local Cloth’s retail space features the work of more than forty-five vendors from the Western North Carolina fiber shed. Shoppers can browse a wide range of products, including hand-dyed and eco-printed garments, woven scarves, and home décor, as well as hand-spun and dyed yarn and roving. There’s truly something for everyone — no matter their style or budget.

Our limited edition Blue Ridge Blankets are also available for purchase in our retail shop. Be sure to stop by and check out our new blanket design for 2025 — the Swannanoa!

The refreshed layout offers more clothing than ever before, and a new product rotation system means the shop’s offerings will change more frequently, encouraging shoppers to stop by often to discover what’s new.

Whether you’re looking for a unique gift or a little something special for yourself, the Local Cloth retail space has plenty to offer. It’s not just a place to shop — it’s a place to connect with the creativity that defines Asheville’s maker community.

Addressing Food Insecurity

Starting November 13, Local Cloth will also begin collecting nonperishable food items to support a local church food pantry and Southside Community Farm, which provides fresh produce to neighbors through a free fridge and CSA boxes. In a time when food insecurity continues to affect so many, this effort is just one more way Local Cloth is weaving compassion into the fabric of the community. Donations can be dropped off daily from noon to 5 p.m.
