Winner of the 2024 Best in Asheville Award for Best Boutique Shop, the Local Cloth Retail Shop features work from over 70 Local Cloth vendors, representing multiple types of fiber materials and arts, including weaving, knitting, felting, crochet, eco-printing, paper, books, sewing, marbling, batik, quilting, garden products, roving and spun yarn. We carry hand-sewn and hand-dyed garments, totes and accessories, home decor, art, books, fiber supplies and yarn, and unique gifts for every occasion. The Limited Edition Blue Ridge Blankets are also available for purchase in the Retail Shop.
Although our Studio and Retail Shop on Depot Street is closed for repairs due to Hurricane Helene, there are multiples ways to Shop Local Cloth!
All purchases support both the fiber artists and farmers (who handcrafted the item or raised the animals that produced the fiber sold) and the work of Local Cloth, enabling us to continue providing programming and events that strengthen our local fiber economy.
On September 27, Hurricane Helene flooded the Local Cloth Studio, wiping out the inventory of our fiber artists and farmers. With the doors of our brick and mortar Shop temporarily closed, Local Cloth has opened a special Online Shop, featuring selected items from our vendors.
Shop local fiber, yarn and roving from Local Cloth fiber artists and farmers in this special storefront display at Earth Guild. Earth Guild is located at 33 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville. Open Monday - Friday (11am - 5pm).
A portion of the proceeds supports Earth Guild.
A former textile manufacturing and warehouse building, Pink Dog Creative is located at 342-248 Depot Street. It was transformed into artist studios and retail spaces now supporting more than 30 artists. We are grateful to have a gallery space dedicated to fiber art created by Local Cloth artists in their big front room! Open daily 11am to 5pm.
Local Cloth is pleased to be part of the new RAD Outpost in downtown Asheville featuring fiber art and apparel in addition to art from other River Arts District Artists. Hours are Thursday - Saturday (10am-6pm) and Sunday (11am - 6pm) through the end of February. A portion of the proceeds benefits the River Arts District Artists Association.
BLUE RIDGE BLANKET PROJECT
We are excited to offer a limited run of the top designs of our Blue Ridge Blankets. In 2023, we launched the Asheville (multi-colored stripes), Barnardsville (white twill), Black Mountain (multi-colored plaid), French Broad River (indigo blue and white stripes), and Pisgah (brown and white twill). In 2024, we launched Weaverville (classic red and walnut plaid) and Leicester (warm walnut stripe). Our shop now features restored Blue Ridge Blankets and pre-orders for 2025. All blankets feature a trio of hand selected fibers in what we call our Blue Ridge Blend: 75% Fine Wool, 15% Mohair and 10% Alpaca. All fiber comes from farms in the Blue Ridge Mountains Fibershed (farms located within a 100-mile radius of Asheville). Each blanket is handwoven by a local weaver in western North Carolina.
Each blanket is one of a kind, and an heirloom, to be treasured for years to come. By purchasing a Limited Edition Blue Ridge Blanket, you are investing in our region's fiber economy and helping us to restore it's vibrancy. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
