Gathering Places: Traditional Basketmaking and the Environment

Traditional Basketmakers have led the way addressing environmental issues that affect traditional plants used for materials and dyes. Beth will talk about some of the approaches used by individuals and organizations to preserve entire ecosystems and specific plants threatened by overdevelopment, climate change, pesticide and herbicide use, and invasive species and how environmental sustainability intersects with cultural and linguistic preservation. 
The Textile Study Group is a free lecture series open to the public.

The group meets at 5:30 pm on the 3rd Wednesday (with some exceptions) at The Center for Craft Creativity and Design, 67 Broadway Street, Asheville, NC 28787.
