Students build their own wooden heddles to use as

backstrap looms in order

to weave a sash, headband, or strap.  We learn

about warp and weft-faced

weaves, weaving styles and implements, and how to

spin wool on a drop

Why do children love spinning and weaving?

 Because it’s fun, easy,

creative, and quiet.  It encourages concentration

and builds self-esteem.

Students discover the importance of spinning and

weaving as two of the

most ancient crafts known to humankind.  The

visual and tactile pleasure

of working with fibers brings the study of history and

culture to life.
