Instructor: Melanie Wilder
In this class, we will focus on the planning and planting of a backyard dye garden. We will focus on the plants that grow easily in our region, their care and harvesting methods, among many other growing specific details. This is an informative class, with little hands on content. This class is not a how to dye class. Each participant will leave with a nice booklet of all info covered and a flat of dye plants ready to go in the ground.
Melanie has lived in the mountains of WNC since 1998, originally coming here to study sustainable agriculture. She later found studied weaving at Haywood Community College and now enjoys watching these 2 worlds collide. She has spent the past 5 years immersed in learning to grow different plant dyes and fibers. Melanie has dedicated the past 20 years to learning and teaching, working with herbalists, a couture sewing business, and teaching the fiber skills she so loves to people of all ages. She is most interested in how process crosses into our daily living and how these choices can help shape our footprint on the future. She have been teaching folks how to plan and plant a dye garden for the past 3-4 years
