Barbara Zaretsky
Pattern and the Subconscious:
Design Path to Cloth
Pattern : an underlying structure that organizes surfaces or objects in a consistent, regular manner.
Barbara Zaretsky has researched the history of pattern in art and design with a focus on how people see and react to patterns they observe everyday. In this presentation she will share her discoveries and show examples from her collection of imagery and patterned textiles.
Always fascinated by pattern, Barbara Zaretsky has created surface designed textiles for more than forty years. Her work can be spontaneous and random or sometimes deliberate and exacting. Named one of the top five designers in Asheville by Southern Living magazine, Barbara creates textiles for home and wardrobe and is the Director of Cloth Fiber Workshop. She has exhibited internationally, and has work in private collections across the U.S. and abroad.
