The History of the World in Textile Objects
For many of us, textile objects are a catalyst for learning about world history, culture, economics, and science. The physical objects are interwoven with stories of use, trade and culture preservation.
Catharine has chosen a select group of textiles from her travels to help tell some of these stories: the Navajo rug, the Zapotec rug, and the raffia of Madagascar.
Catharine Ellis has been a weaver and dyer for over 40 years. Since “retiring” from teaching at Haywood Community College, she has been traveling the world, teaching and learning about textiles and natural dyes. She currently serves on the board of The Textile Society of America.
