October Natural Dye Group

This month we will finish our series on printing with natural dyes. We will use citric acid to discharge color.  We will try this in 2 ways: on fabric that is already dyed and on fabric that is just mordanted. So, please bring fabric that is already naturally dyed. The sample in the photo was dyed with logwood but it would be good to experiment with several dyes or you can “dye” with ferrous acetate, so bring any kind of natural dye on cotton or linen.

For the second method, bring fabric that has been mordanted with aluminum acetate and we will discharge the mordant and then dye it  (I will bring weld extract to dye with). Also bring your screen and any printing blocks you want to use. We will make the citric acid paste on the day.

If you are new to the group please read the attached document.

Hope to see you there!

Joyce
