Marled yarn is popular these days, partly because knitting designers like Stephen West have created wildly marled knitting, indie-dyers now make multi-colored marled yarns, and a very detailed book on marled yarns has just been written by Cecelia Campochiaro. Spinners have been spinning marled yarns for many years, in fact anytime two or more yarns are plied together, they are marled. But the high contrast barberpole yarns aren’t as desirable as today’s contemporary combinations can be. In this class we’ll spin both single and double marled yarn, comparing those that are close in hue with others that are very contrasty. We’ll also use those gorgeous dyed braids we all have in our stash and marl them with natural colored yarn, both dark and light, and even with each other for dreamy results.
