
Sewing is probably a skill you learned in Middle School and it is time for a refresher to show off the wonderful fabrics you create. This class in general will last for one day a week for 8 weeks. By the end of this class you will be able to produce a professional looking garment that you have sewn. The structure of the class will usually include demonstrations, your practice at completing a page for a notebook on that topic, and sewing this technique on a piece of your own. There are youtube videos of most techniques to help remind you of steps. Sewing Techniques Explored: - understanding body shapes and what looks best - garment shaping - developing a muslin for fitting and make modifications - layout and cutting - edge finishing - appropriate seams - interfacing and facings - ironing and pressing techniques and tools - sleeves - closures - collars - hems At this point you will have learned most techniques needed to sew successful and beautiful garments and accessories.

Students should bring: Sewing machine ( we have machines in the studio for you to use if you don't have your own), thread, pins, handsewing needles, cloth marker (or chalk), good cutting shears, paper shears, notebook for samples, hem gauge, if available a rotary cutter and ruler, serger if you have one, booklet that came with your sewing machine if you have one, tape measure
