Woven in the 1400’s, this tapestry still shows the brilliant colors of dyes used, including weld, madder and indigo. In this series of classes, we will explore how using just these three natural dyes we can create at least 8 different colors and almost limitless shades and hues. We will dye both protein and cellulose based fibers and you will learn how to prepare these different types of fiber for dyeing. We keep a detailed record of our work and create a book of samples. This is a class for those who want to deeply investigate these dyes and our products will be an reference book with samples rather than yards of fabric or yarn. If you are new to natural dyeing please take the Introduction to Natural Dyes class prior to this series. Each class in the series will focus on one of the plant dyes: weld, madder and indigo. We will also experiment with post dye modification and over dyeing.
