Weaving on a Circular Frame

Circular weaving, also known as circle weaving or round weaving, is similar to regular weaving, but it’s done on a round loom instead of a rectangular loom. One doesn’t have to purchase a specific loom, as you can use any circular object like a large ring, embroidery hoops, and more. When you string the loom, your warp strings look like bicycle spokes, and you weave in and out of these spokes (or warp strings) in a circular direction. The technique is plain weaving. This is a wonderful way to use up your stash yarn. Weaving experience not required- it’s fun for beginners and experienced weavers.

What to bring: 1 ten inch metal ring - can find at hobby lobby, Michael’s, or amazon (circular rings for crafts). You can select any size but for the first time select at least 10-14 inches. Large tapestry needle. You might need several sizes depending on the weaving yarn you will use. If you need to thread yarn, needle threader helps. Warp yarn (amount depends on size of loom- figure at least 80 times the diameter of circle, needs to be strong yarn). Non mercerized cotton is a good choice. Do not use stretchy yarn for the warp! Black or white is always a good color, but it will be your choice. Bring any stash yarn that you love, but Local Cloth will have yarns too to select from Embellishments (like buttons, charms, anything you can thread through yarn) Scissors , Tape measure
