Calling all FIBER FARMERS of the Blue Ridge Fibershed:

If you are a fiber farmer, located within a 100 mile radius of Asheville, NC, it's time to gather! We want to put YOU on the map.

The Fiber Farmer Listening Sessions are an opportunity to:

    * Become part of a new online map and database of fiber farmers in our region
    * Discuss what resources you need to be successful and grow your market
    * Contribute fiber samples to a sample book that will be shared with our region's fiber artists and designers
    * Drop off a sample of your washed fiber for assessment with a micron tester and learn about its potential for value-added goods
    * Learn about the possibility of selling fiber to Local Cloth for the Blue Ridge Blankets

This event is FREE and refreshments will be provided.

About the location: Two Roots Fiber Mill is nestled against the mountains of NE Tennessee and includes an alpaca ranch, a fiber mill and a hobby vineyard. Their fiber mill caters to regional fiber farms by specializing in creating artisan products: yarn, core spun yarn, roving, batts and wet felted sheets.

Host/ Guest Speaker: Ruth Ann Goss will give a tour of the fiber mill and a presentation about how to prepare your fiber for the mill.

    What to Bring:

    • Come prepared to share about your farm: the fiber type you raise, how you are selling and processing your fiber, resources you have for scouring, shearing and skirting, what mills you are using, etc.

    • Bring your questions, needs and dreams for your fiber farm.

    • A notebook and pen to take notes.

    • If you’d like to have a sample of your fiber assessed with a micron tester, please bring a washed, clean sample (no VM), with a small sample from shoulder, rib and britch for an overall reading, in a labeled zip lock bag.  $5/sample. 5 or more = $3/sample. Samples will be processed at the Fiber Farmers Day on April 22nd and reports will be emailed shortly after.

    • If you’d like us to include your fiber in our regional fiber sample book, please bring 2 oz of your washed fiber.
