In March the Natural Dye group will be exploring two dyes that come from the inner bark of trees: Brazilwood (Caesalpina echinata) and African Blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon). Brazilwwood gives a lovely pink-red color while the African Blackwood gives soft purplish hues. As usual please bring pre mordanted samples of cellulose or protein fibers. We will do a post dye modification with iron on both samples. The dyeing takes time so bring along a project to work on as well as any show and tell you'd like to share.
