Now that you’ve mastered your wheel, learned how to spin everything from BFL to merino to alpaca, dyed and made wild batts, what’s next? If you’re like us, you’ve discovered how fabulous handspun is for knitting and may have experimented with adding it to your weaving. Those glorious fibers in your stash and funky art yarn call to you, but you wonder, does it hold together? How do you get feathers and sequins to stay in and what about those little felty balls? Can I really make art yarn on my wheel? This workshop will teach you the major techniques of fiber and hand control to make awesome looking yarn with sound construction. We’ll have demonstrations and coaching with some time to practice as you learn the main techniques in art yarn. Morning - corespinning, coils, beehives and stacks. Afternoon: trapping objects, tailspinning, mohair and super coils. Beth is the maestro of the electric wheel and spins art yarn exclusively, while Judi has taught art yarn and spinning on castle and saxony wheels for 15 years.
